With this Privacy Policy we would like to inform you about the collection, processing and usage (hereafter referred to as “use”) of personal data. How to object to the use of your personal data in accordance with the relevant data protection regulations, you will learn here.

2. Collection, processing and use of personal data

Personal data is information that identifies you, such as your name, date of birth, telephone number, e-mail or postal address. 

Beiersdorf AG (hereafter referred to as “Beiersdorf”) uses the personal data provided by you as far as it is necessary for the establishment, execution or termination of a contractual or quasi-contractual obligation with you or for the use of one of the our services. Amongst other cases, this includes setting up a customer account, participating in a raffle or sending us a contact request. We will inform you about the concrete purpose of use when collecting your data. In these cases, we will use your personal data exclusively to process your respective request. You are free to decide whether to disclose your data to us for the aforementioned purposes. As far as the type of your request allows it, you may remain anonymous or use a pseudonym. 

If Beiersdorf intends to use personal data for other purposes (especially for advertising and marketing purposes), we will always seek your explicit consent before collecting your data.

3. Use of personal data for advertising and market research purposes

To the extent you consent to the use of your personal data for “advertising and market research purposes,” your personal data will be used for such purposes. We only do this if you expressly consent to such use, e.g. by placing a check mark in the appropriate box during a promotion and then confirming.

We can then send you individualized advertisements about our products and services or suggest that you participate in promotions, such as lotteries or product tests. We contact you over the channels of communication you have indicated in connection with your consent to our contact, e.g. by e-mail, if you provide your e-mail address, or by telephone or SMS if you provide us with your landline number or mobile phone number. Finally, we also use your data to analyze and improve the effectiveness of our websites and our advertising and market research. 

You may withdraw your consent at any time with future effect.

4. Duration of the storage of your data

We will only store the data provided by you as long as it is necessary to fulfil the respective purpose for which you have submitted your data to us or to comply with regulatory requirements.

Provided that you have given us your explicit consent to the use of your personal data for advertising purposes (subscription to the NIVEA newsletter or to NIVEA FOR ME), we will use your data for these purposes as long as you do not revoke your consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time with future effect. 

5. Limited transfer

While processing your request, it may be necessary for Beiersdorf to transfer your personal data to other affiliated companies within the Beiersdorf group or external service providers, which may also be seated in European third countries and work solely on our account. Such service providers may be entrusted, for example, with the dispatch of product samples to you, the distribution of advertising materials or the processing of raffles, e.g. the shipment of the products. Beiersdorf requests all affiliated companies within the Beiersdorf group as well as its external service providers to use your personal data only in compliance with our standards and in accordance with this privacy policy and the legal requirements for contract data protection. 

Apart from that, we neither transmit, sell nor lease personal data to third parties without your inducement. However, we reserve the right to disclose information about you if we are obliged to do so by law or if the disclosure is lawfully demanded of us by public authorities or law enforcement agencies.

6. Information automatically stored when you visit our websites/Use of cookies/Google Analytics

We use so-called “cookies” on our websites. Cookies are small text files that are placed on the hard drive of your computer by your browser. The cookies we use do not store any personal data, so that personal identification is impossible.

a. Cookies improve the functionality of our websites

One reason we use cookies is to better understand how our websites are being used so as to improve their attractiveness, content, and functionality. For example, cookies help us to determine whether sub-pages of our website are being visited, and, if so, which ones and what content is of interest to users. Specifically, we record the number of accesses to a page, the number of sub-pages viewed, the amount of time spent on our websites, the sequence of pages visited, which search terms led you to us, the country, region and, if necessary, city from which the access was made, what Internet browser with what language setting you use, and the percentage of mobile terminals that access our websites. The IP address of your computer, which is transmitted for technical reasons, is automatically anonymized and does not permit any conclusions to be drawn as to your identity.

b. Cookies for use-based online advertising

We reserve the right to use information that we have obtained from cookies and an anonymized analysis of your pattern of website use in order to display specific advertising for certain of our products on our websites. We believe that you, as a user, profit from this, because we run advertising or content that we believe matches your interests – based on your surfing behavior –  and you see less randomly displayed advertising and less content that is of little interest to you.

c. How to prevent “cookies” from being stored on your hard drive or delete them

You can set your Internet browser to prevent the storage of cookies on your hard drive, and you will be asked each time whether you agree to the placement of a cookie. d. Google Analytics 

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (“Google“). Google Analytics uses a specific form of “cookies”, text files, which are saved on your computer and which allow an analysis of the use of the website by you. The information produced by the cookie about the use of this website by you is generally transferred to a server of Google in the USA and saved there. Please note that on this website, Google Analytics has been extended by the code “gat._anonymizeIp();” to ensure an anonymized registration of IP addresses (so-called IP-masking). By this IP anonymization on this website, your IP address is shortened by Google within the territory of the EU respectively the member states of the European Economic Community. Only in exceptional cases, the whole IP address is transferred to a server of Google in the USA and shortened there. 

Google will use these information on our account to evaluate your use of this website, to compile reports about the site activities and to provide other services to the website owner which are associated with website and internet use. The IP address submitted by your browser through Google Analytics will not be brought together with other data of Google.

e. Google AdWords

This website uses Google AdWords, an analysis service by Google, and within Google AdWords it uses the Conversion Tracking feature. , Google AdWords places a cookie (the so-called “conversion cookie”) on the hard disk of your computer for the Conversion Tracking whenever you click on an advertisement placed by Google. These cookies will be deleted after 30 days and do not aim at personal identification. When you visit certain pages on our website, Google and we are able to detect that you have clicked on the advertisement displayed and that you have been directed to this page.

The information gathered through Conversion Cookies is used to generate statistics for AdWorks customers who utilize Conversion Tracking. These statistics enable us to learn about the total amount of users who click on the ads placed by Google and access a website with a Conversion-Tracking-tag. 

Besides the Conversion Tracking, we also use the following features:
  • Remarketing
  • Target groups with shared interests
  • User-defined target groups with shared interests
  • Target groups willing to purchase
  • Similar target groups
  • Demographical and geographical orientation 

With the remarketing feature of Google we reach users who have already visited our website. Thus, we can present our advertisement to target groups who are already interested in our products or services. Furthermore, AdWorks identifies the users´ shared interests and characteristics on the basis of the user behavior on the websites within the advertisement network of Google (“display network”) during the last 30 days as well as with the help of the contextual search engine. On the basis of this information AdWorks then finds new potential customers for marketing purposes whose interests and characteristics resemble those of our website´s users. The target-group-specific remarketing is achieved by combining the use of different kinds of cookies, such as Google Analytics cookies and Google DoubleClick cookies.

f. Google DoubleClick

On our websites, we use the feature DoubleClick by Google in order to analyze the use of the website and to enable us, Google as well as other advertisers that work with DoubleClick to present user-relevant advertisement to you. For this, a cookie is installed on the hard disk of your computer. With the help of this cookie a pseudonym identification number is assigned to your browser and information about the advertisement displayed in your browser is collected. The information gathered by the cookie about your use of the websites is generally transmitted to and saved on a Google server in the USA. On the basis of the information gathered, interest relevant categories are assigned to your browser. These categories are used to display interest-related advertisement. 

7. Social plug-ins

Few, selected microsites of our website use so-called social plug-ins (“plug-ins”) of social networks, particularly Facebook’s “Share”-button. The provider’s website, i.e., is operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. However, Facebook Ireland Limited, Hanover Reach, 5-7 Hanover Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland, is responsible for the German website The plug-ins are generally marked with the Facebook logo. 

For data protection reasons we decided not to incorporate direct plug-ins from social networks on the landing-page of our website. Instead, we only use them once you have given your consent so that you can decide, whether and when to transfer data to social networks. As a consequence thereof, data will not be transferred automatically to social networks, like Facebook for example, when visiting our websites. Your internet browser will not connect to the corresponding servers of the social network until you have not actively clicked on the respective button. By clicking the respective button, you give your explicit consent that your internet browser will connect to the corresponding servers of the social network and that user data will be transferred to the provider of the respective social network.

We have no influence on the nature and scope of the data transferred to social networks after clicking the respective button. 8. Contact, information, withdrawal of consent, blocking, deletion

You may at any time gratuitously object to the use of your personal data with future effect, arrange a partial or complete deletion or blocking or request information about the personal data saved by us or request its rectification. We have taken technical and organizational measures to protect your data against loss, modification or unauthorized access. We continuously improve these security measures according to the technological development.
